Victoria & Abdul

Starring Dame Judi Dench, Victoria and Abdul explores the true story of a remarkable friendship in the later years of Queen Victoria’s rule. Having been in office for sixty two years, eighty one year-old Queen Victoria has outlived many of her loved ones. She is unhappy and has started questioning the point of life. When Abdul Karim (Ali Fazal), a young clerk, is sent from India to present her with a ceremonial coin during the Golden Jubilee, he finds favour with the Queen. Abdul gives her a new lust for life, teaching her Urdu and the Koran. Members of the Royal Family and the Queen’s staff disapprove of the relationship and even accuse the Queen of having gone insane. A fascinating and touching story about the enduring relationship between an ordinary Indian and his ageing queen.
