Women from the Dunbar Dementia Carers Support Group will be marching in the Processions parade in Edinburgh on Sunday 10th June on behalf of Luminate.

The group have been working with artist Fiona Hermse since April, making a banner which incorporates printing, dyeing, knitting, sewing and crochet to tell the untold story of the Dunbar fish wives, all in green, white and violet, the colours of the suffragette movement.

The banner also includes the words of Scottish-born abolitionist and feminist Frances Wright, ‘Equality is the soul of liberty.’

The Processions parade marks 100 years since the Representation of the People Act gave the first British women the right to vote, and the culmination of a project which has seen 100 community groups work with 100 women artists all over the UK as part of a public programme of creative workshops.

Processions will take place simultaneously in Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh and London.

PROCESSIONS is commissioned by 14-18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary and produced by Artichoke.
