Alan Gow, Trustee

Alan is Deputy Director of the Centre for Applied Behavioural Sciences at Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, and Director of The Ageing Lab, exploring interventions to improve the health and wellbeing of older people.

His research focuses on the lifestyles and behaviours that promote brain health and factors that predict healthy ageing.

Alan has worked on large longitudinal studies of ageing, examining how physical and leisure activities, occupational characteristics, and social networks might be protective, as well as being involved in public engagement and outreach activities to share what we know about ‘staying sharp’ as we age.

He joined Luminate’s Board in 2019.  His interest in the work relates to the benefits that participating in and leading creative activities might have for our health and wellbeing, and also as a sometime amateur performer in previous years.
