Creative Facilitators’ Development Day

  • What: 1 day artist development opportunity
  • When: Thursday, 7th March 2024
  • Where: Luminate Offices, Edinburgh

We have six places available for artists, experienced in creative ageing delivery, who would like to develop their skills in order to facilitate reflection opportunities with other artists.

A fee of £400 plus expenses will be paid to those selected to attend. Some preparation reflection and follow-up evaluation time will also be required in addition to participation in the day itself.

Luminate’s artist support and development programme is growing, and this training day is being offered to enable us to widen the pool of facilitators who support our programme.

Artists will be selected from different parts of Scotland to ensure that we have a good geographical spread. We are keen to support artists who have worked on recent Luminate projects – including Arts in Care – as well as creative ageing projects led by other organisations and individual artists.

While we are offering this event to widen the pool of facilitators available to support Luminate’s work, our aim is that the skills developed through this training will also be valuable to participants when working in other professional contexts.

What’s involved

The development day will take place on Monday 7th March at Age Scotland’s Office in Causewayside House (160 Causewayside, Edinburgh EH9 1PR). Exact timings are to be decided but will likely be from 10am to 4pm, and lunch will be provided.

The day will start with an introduction to the research and together we will consider the implications for artists working in creative ageing contexts. We will explore the importance of support, and peer-to-peer support specifically including ways of working, boundaries and roles within peer-led spaces. Working together we will design a set of peer group guidelines as a shared resource for course participants. There will be plenty of time for discussion and questions.

Artist fees

We will pay each artist a total fee of £400. Expenses will also be covered, as will any access costs; access needs will be discussed with the six participating artists.

This includes people with protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010 across age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation.
