Updated advice for care homes on visiting professionals

The Scottish Government has issued updated advice for the staged return of visiting professionals to care homes. This includes reference to artists, musicians, and others who provide “holistic and spiritual” support, recognising the contribution these wider services make to residents’ overall health and wellbeing.

The recommended stages of return depend on which Covid protection level an area is in. Visits from artists and musicians can potentially resume when an area is in Level 2, and protections such as the use of PPE will be required.  However, the guidance is clear that it will be for care home managers to decide how and when their care home can safely support this return. Health and Social Care Partnerships will also play an important supporting role.

Current expectations are that all of Scotland will move to Level 2 from 17th May, however, this is entirely dependent on levels of Covid-19 prevalence in the community.
