Callout for case studies

Arts Education and Creative Learning opportunities for older people across Scotland

An older woman is sitting on her couch with an open laptop and various drawing implements in front of her. At the edge of te image ther is a walker chair.

At Luminate, we want to understand more about the arts education and creative learning opportunities available for older people across Scotland.

We know that many older people who take part in creative activities do this through a learning opportunity, whether it’s an art class in a village hall, a workshop led by a local arts organisation, or joining a community group to learn how to play a new musical instrument.  These activities are important in our communities, and we want to find out more about what’s going on in 2024.  Over the next few months we will showcase some of these opportunities on our website.

We’re interested both in activities that are specifically designed for older learners as well as adult learning activities aimed at all ages including older learners.  For this callout we are specifically looking for activities that aim to develop older people’s arts and creative skills and/or knowledge.

If you would like to tell us about your project, class or programme, please send us a short paragraph (100-150 words) by email or post.  Tell us:

  • what activities you offer that fit this description
  • where the activities take place
  • do you charge participants, and if so, how much
  • what the learning aims are for participants
  • how you know if your project, class or programme is successful in achieving what you hope for
  • what, if anything, you do to adapt your activity so that older people can join
  • your name, email address and phone number
  • your role in relation to the activity (i.e. are you the teacher or activity leader, or do you run an organisation that hosts a relevant arts class)

We will use this information in two ways.  Firstly, it will help us to plan our future work by increasing our understanding of the creative learning opportunities available to older people across Scotland.  Secondly, we will select a number of projects and programmes to showcase as case studies on our website.  We are looking for activities in different artforms and different parts of the country.

If we decide to showcase your project, programme or class, we will get in touch with you to ask for more information.  We can offer a small fee to anyone who is invited to write a longer case study, or we might ask if we can send a film-maker to interview you for an online film.

Please email your responses to: info@luminatescotland.org
