Opportunity to get sew creative in Forfar
An art project for older people will get underway in Forfar in February 2026, offering people the chance to develop their creative sewing skills and work together to create a community banner.
The workshops are part of a new project led by Luminate in partnership with ANGUSalive, Angus Health & Social Care Partnership and Voluntary Action Angus.
Local professional artist Maureen Crosbie will lead the activities at Forfar Library’s Lend & Mend Hub, giving people an opportunity to refresh skills or learn the basics of using a sewing machine to produce a collaborative piece of art.
Taster sessions will take place on Friday 6th February, followed by a series of four weekly workshops on Fridays, with the option to attend morning or afternoon sessions. All of the events are free to attend.
The project will offer a creative programme to three groups of older people in Forfar. As well as the library workshops, artist Maureen Crosbie will also work with Lochside Connections Dementia Meeting Centre and the Deirdre Knight Day Centre.
It is hoped that a selection of the artworks created will potentially be shared with the wider community at a later date.
Anne Gallacher, Director of Luminate said: “Luminate aims to inspire, support and develop creative ageing practice across Scotland, widening the opportunities available to older people. We’re excited to be working in collaboration with local partners in Forfar on this new project.”
Lesley Matthews, ANGUSalive said: “We are delighted our Lend + Mend Hub in Forfar library will be used as part of this exciting project and look forward to seeing everyone’s creativity!”
Sally Wilson, Service Manager, Angus Health & Social Care Partnership said: We are delighted to be part of this collaboration with Luminate. Creating and enhancing opportunities for social connection is a vital part of the Angus Community Planning Partnership’s work, and we are proud to support it. We have no doubt that people will enjoy taking part and benefit from being involved.”
Booking for the taster sessions and workshops is essential, as places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Participants must be library members and can join free when they sign up.
