Pete Carthy Visual Art

About Pete (age 55)
Pete is passionate about nature and has been his entire life, from walking in the Lake District as a teenager to setting up a social enterprise (
Instinctively Wild CIC) specialising in Forest Schools and Eco-therapy in the Scottish Borders and Lothians.   His background for over the last twenty-four years has been in primary school teaching, specialising in Forest Schools and Outdoor Learning.  Pete is an educator, artist, and social entrepreneur.

Pete’s creative practice is about trying to capture nature’s mood through nature journaling in watercolour. He has completed an entry every day in and around the Scottish Borders since January 1, 2023, and this has continued through 2024 and now into 2025. On the 22nd of March, he will be running his first art show in Edinburgh to celebrate his journaling. The 22nd of March 2025 will represent day 811, the title of the show. Currently he posts his current nature journaling on his Instagram/Facebook feed.

 Bursary Summary
I have begun to appreciate two forms of my creative practice. These are landscapes and botanical art. I have done courses with the Scottish Society of Botanical Artists and am using these skills to further that work, specifically painting mushrooms. It is my fascination with landscape that I want to develop through this bursary.
