Born and educated in Edinburgh, Sylvia travelled widely before taking up a working life in the arts, eventually becoming Head of Education at the Scottish Arts Council. Following her graduation MLitt (distinction) in playwriting and dramaturgy from the University of Glasgow in 2010, she has pursued a successful career as a professional playwright. Her latest play Woman Walking will tour Scotland in October this year.
