This is a short film about Luminate and creative ageing. It shows just a glimpse of the range and variety of activity happening daily across Scotland with and for older people.
We hope it demonstrates some of our core beliefs about creative ageing, namely that:
– everyone has the right to a creative life, and should be able to take part in activities that are accessible, welcoming and fulfilling
– older artists have important things to say and make a huge contribution to Scotland’s creative landscape, and
– creative activities provide different ways for people to connect and communicate, and bring joy and meaning to our lives as we age
Throughout April 2022, over 25 tenants & 10 staff in Turriff's Dawson Court Very Sheltered Housing complex worked with fibre artist Frieda Strachan and film company Poppycock Films to explore creativity as a tool for self-expression. Called 'Felt Fine', tenants were encouraged to use the tactile material of unspun wool to weave landscapes inspired by living in rural Aberdeenshire.
PRIME are Dance Base’s resident dance performance company for dancers aged over 60 years old. Created by Morag Deyes in 2015, PRIME was born from a desire to change the under-representation of older dancers on stage and to actively challenge stereotypes around ageing, ability, and who can be a dancer.
